Inspiration needed

Hello,
Have recently moved into our first house and are both completely new to gardeneing. We have an area to the front of or house which is currently a bit ugly. It has a huge tree over it so doesn’t get much water or sun and not a great deal seems to grow there. Am looking for some ideas on how we can make it look a bit more attractive. Thanks ☺️

Grass obviously doesn't do well so that would need to go, it all depends on your budget and what style you like. How about a knot garden and gravel? Japanese rocks and raked gravel design. Tubs of hostas with spring bulbs. Can you raise the tree canopy? Meandering path in between shaped flower beds.   Beef up the soil with well rotted manure or compost, finish with a mulch to conserve water. There are loads of plants that will cope with dry shade.

Good suggestions Darleydame, any of those would look good.
