Hostas

Two of my hostas have started to produce what looks like new baby plants on a stalk. They don't look like flower stalks. Can anyone explain why this is happening and what I should do with these new little plantlets? I have heard that this can happen when the plant is under stress. Could this be down to the challenging winter and early spring weather conditions?

It sounds a bit like fasciation.

    Does it look like this?

  • Hi Hostafan1. Yes, they look very similar. Do you know what has caused this?

I believe nobody knows for sure what causes it. Some say it's cold, some say damage to growing tip.
Leave or remove is your choice, neither will do any harm.
Enjoy the curiosity of it. ;)

  • Thanks for that, Hostafan1. I will enjoy watching the developments!
