Blackcurrant bush

We have a well established blackcurrant bush and have never had a very good crop from it because although I prune after fruiting (Autumn/winter) it now has a few bunches of fruit and plenty of new growth too, should I remove the new growth now so that the energy can be used on improving the fruit quality rather than wasting it on new growth which I will probably prune off when I do the annual pruning?

I'd give it some tomato feed, water well, mulch well and leave it alone ... it needs the new growth to produce fruit next year.
