What are these? Friend or foe?

Hello!
I recently came across these 2 types of beetles in my garden and am unsure whether they are pests or beneficial critters. Of the red beetle I found a whole "assembly" under the lavender (i.e. 7-8).
Grateful for any advice you can give.
Thanks,
MLC

It's a bit hard to make out the beetle but maybe Lochmaea crataeg hawthorn leaf beetle? Are there any hawthorns or blackthorns in the area?

The top one looks like a lily beetle. Pest!
I agree with nutcutlet about the ladybird larva. Friend.

    Yes to ladybird larva.

Don't think the red one is a lily beetle as they're shinier and have no black splodge - unless newly "hatched" one have them and grow out of them - https://www.google.fr/search?q=lily+beetle+image&rlz=1C1CHBF_enFR780FR780&oq=lily+beetle+image&aqs=chrome..69i57j0l4.5220j0j8&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

Lily beetles have a thorax that is much narrower than their body but that looks a similar width. Hard to tell exactly though.

  • Where are the photos taken MLC? I mean where in the world rather than where in the garden.

Thanks All! The photos are taken in Zurich, so in the lowlands of Switzerland.
Thanks for the link to images of lily beetles, Obelixx. I agree with you, comparing the body of "my" beetle with those would indicate that they're not lily beetles. I'll have to take a pic with a camera that can zoom in better.
