Dying hedge

Hi, new here but need help identifying what appears to be killing my hedge.  Brown spots appear on new growth then seems leaf is eaten as many holes appear. No sign of any insects.  Whole length of hedge effected and it has spread fast as hedge grew new growth.  Any thoughts?  Quick web search suggests it could be honey fungus, but far from sure.  Thanks in advance.

Does the hedge have an unpleasant smell, especially when wet? Could be this

Your hedge looks to be Viburnum Tinus, and it's suffering from Viburnum Beetle infestation. Here's a link on how to deal with it.

Thanks both.  Yes it does smell after rain.  I have been out to have an even closer look and found some larvae - see picture - what I can't believe is the speed it at which it has a 20x7x6 foot hedge :(

Be patient with what you are going through. It can take a few years to sort out. It's very likely this issue had carried over from previous years and you need to now get on top of the issue by either pruning or treating it now and not any later.
