Lizzie27, I find washing-up liquid doesn't makes any difference. On delicate areas, I normally go around with a damp facial cotton pad and wiping them off. Usually, they fall off easily. But can't say it works for others.

If you're very gentle you can at least damage  if nor kill the aphids .
With my roses, if they are on leaves that haven't opened, I very gently stroke/pinch the leaves together.

Thanks for advice. I've just been out and sprayed with diluted washing up liquid. The problem is that the plant has small clusters of flower buds and the aphids are in the middle and all over the buds, so I can't wipe or put a cotton wool bud between them.
Hopefully they will all fly away soon, probably onto OH's runner beans he's just planted!

    You can but hope!
I'd save the dahlias, but fresh runner beans are a delicious but fleeting pleasure compared to a beautiful flower.

Same problem here, but with a pear tree. What can I use on edibles that works but doesn't affect edibility? I've got an organic bug spray, but it specifically references ornamentals so assuming there's an issue with edibles / that it may actually be evil in disguise. Help!
