Browning off of blossom

I have a small pink syringa, planted in a large pot. It has grown well and gave three soft pink flower spikes, all well! I sprinkled a general powder shrub feed and watered as before. I was away for 6 days, when I returned, two of the flower spikes had brown at the end a the blossom flower and now the third is turning too. The shrub itself is looking good, no problem with the leaves or bark.
what should I do?

Could it just be the natural dieing off of the blooms, when they finish flowering?

It seemed sudden and every flower of the spike at the same time. I thought the flower blooms should last a lot longer than two weeks?

That seems about the right length of time for lilac ... especially when we've had a lot of sun.
