Have you thought about herbs? I also have alpines and grasses in my other gravel border 🌼

Ive used fish tank gravel in the herb boarder as I needed something smaller than standard gravel size.

I let th herbs flower for colour and the rock rose (red and white) has not yet flowered in the gravel border.

There are lots of alkaline, mat forming plants that would be fine, like aubretia, low growing campanula, erigeron, saponaria, camomile, creeping phlox, creeping ceanothus.

Get a hold of a copy of Beth Chatto's book 'The gravel Garden'. Lots of ideas in there and an excellent book.
