What book do you recommend?

Hello everyone! I am new in gardening..I started growing plants about half a year, so I decided to raise my competentions. I was thinking about a book that will help me with basic things. What is more, I am Polish nationality, so I am looking for something not so hard for me. What would you recommend for me?

Books by Dr. D G Hessayon are very straightforward and practical. He wrote them on many aspects of gardening, so theres something for everyone. I started on those many years ago.

I particularly like 'The green garden expert' by him. There is one called 'The complete garden expert' which might be a good one to start off with. His books are not expensive either.

And he does flowers and shrubs in a very helpful way, too.
  • There are so many out there to choose from @flourishann77 Alan Titchmarsh is generally pretty good and a lot of his books cover the basics, his book How To Be A Gardner is very good and covers the basics.

If I were you I'd join the local library and see if they have anything that suits what you are looking for.

I agree. They're much updated now, but I still have several from the 70's and 80's.
There are plenty of useful videos on you-tube too

Third vote for How to be a Gardener. I use Hessayon’s Vegetable Expert and recently found an old copy of his Flower Expert, which is very clear and easy to follow.

Another vote for Alan Titchmarsh's How to be a Gardener. Look in charity shops or online at Am....n for a cheap second hand copy. All you need to know for a new gardener. I still keep it as a reference book.
