Sambucus Nigra flopped
Hi all,
Last year I added a sapling Sambucus, which had grown to 2m high at the start of this season. It has now flowered and the leaves are all good.
But the trunk has flopped. Neighbouring plants are all fine, including an Acer that I would have expected to complain first if there was anything wrong with moisture.
Within a period of 48 hours the Sambucus' trunk gradually turned to sponge and the plant is now resting on the lawn! What happened?

When you don't even know who's in the team

I have just noticed that new stems are thicker than the leading branch - perhaps the new shoots pushed the older one over?

I grow nigra and the golden variety and have noticed this year that some of the branch ends of the nigra are wilting a lot in the sun (as is everything else!), but they perk up in the evening. The golden elder is in shade and not affected. In my garden everything is wilting atm - constant sun and no rain in ages. The soil is like dust.
You could try propping the branch back up, or cut it off at the base.
