Lily beetles -are they seasonal?

  • I had some this year, the grubs reduced some of my plants to skeletons. They cover themselves in dark faeces, horrible slimy things. I was too late spraying with Provado. After i sprayed the lilies did survive.

    I just squashed mine.
I wonder where they came from though. Do they come with the bulbs or do they wander about gardens looking for a victim?

They fly around the place searching out lilies .... I'm not going to grow any for a few years ... hopefully that'll cut down on the local population.

I removed dozens of larvae from a large stand of dark lilies over a five or six week period. You're welcome to next year's if I missed any  :)

Many thanks in advance, Dove & Fairy, that's awfully generous of you. However I'll be content with photos of them lily bugs, don't bother with the real thing. ;) Actually I never see any in my garden presumably because I don't grow lilies.

That would account for it PJ!
I didn't realise that they could fly. They don't fly when you go after them with the fingers of death.

Or perhaps that's the 'flying, fickle finger of fate'  B3  :D

That's for anyone who remembers Rowan and Martin's Laugh In.  ;)
