And yet another new bug...

Perhaps I should start a ‘bug of the day’ thread as I seem to be finding news ones daily, clearly attracted, for better or worse, by all the lovely new stuff I have been planting. Here is today’s:



I assume this one, being some sort of spider, is friend rather than foe? Seems to be eating ants and the swarm of tiny beetles recently arrived. It has a friend with a yellow striped body who has disappeared into the centre of the rose bloom.

Any guesses?

    All spiders are friends,in that they eat millions of other insects, including aphids.

    Yes, quite a handsome beastie. I am constantly amazed by my developing ecology. Hopefully, in time, some sort of balance will be achieved. There are certainly more ladybirds around but nothing as yet to predate on the red shield bugs that decimated my aubergines and purple sprouting broccoli last year.
