As in the title really, how far down the stem should I cut back?

    If all the buds have flowered I'd cut the stem right out of any plant ,if I was going to cut back at all. (I save seed so rarely cut back)

    I cut the stem back to the bit that's in the clump, so it keeps the clump looking tidy, otherwise you have little bits of stem poking up all over the place. Hope this makes some kind of sense. :)
