Powdery mildew on apples

I get a few shoots of mildew on my cordon apple every year (variety Katya or Katy). I've just tolerated it in the past as there are usually apples on other branches. Anthing I can do to help the tree become more resistant to the fungus- apart from trying to keep in healthy? Should I prune off the affected tips?
