Looks like ash saplings to me.

They grow very large, very fast and tend to anchor in really awkward places. I would get rid asap.

It is a useful wood though, everything used to be made of ash from tools and weapons to farm machinery. If I have room I let them grow large enough to be cut for bean or pea sticks. If there's more room then it makes good firewood so worth leaving to grow to a useful size to cut for logs. I'm letting one grow in the garden at the moment so I can use it to make a rustic bird table when it gets large enough. Just ring bark at the base to kill it off and chop the trunk to the desired height to top with a table.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
  • thanks so much for your advice and help everyone 👍🏻😊
  • I wonder could you also help me with this one which I thought was the same but now realise it isn't?
  • it looks very similar to the hedge that's next to it but the leaves are probably twice as big. sorry for the stupid questions .. I moved here so it wasn't me who planted any of these! 😂

Forsythia?  Are the older branches (in the centre of the bush) rough or bumpy? Did it have yellow flowers in early spring?
  • hiya yes the branches are really nobbly/bumpy
