    I would think crocosmia would be just fine. Freesia, gladiolus?

    I have a strip like this with a large clay pipe under. I planted alpines, succulents and bulbs there as its on a slope.

    Well, just been to the GC, the best in the area, and they didn’t have a single one of all your helpful suggestions or those on my initial list or indeed anything very much. Will try again in a couple of months to see if they have any new stock in. Worried it’s going to go bust now, as it’s usually quite good. The hunt continues for non-invasive ‘oranges and lemons’ shallow rooting or at least non-tap root perennials. Might be reduced to marigolds, but a bit short for the intended space...

    Good point, would be useful not just for buying but also when potting on and importantly, when transplanting.  Website designers take note 😀
