    Osteospermum, tagetes, gerberas...
  • No sure where you are located @ Dirty Harry. French Lavender no good in North. Had one inside little grow house to give it some protection but the Beast from the East finished it off.  I stick to more traditional ones but even those don't like wet feet in winter and have to be planted in grit to  improve drainage.

I managed to keep a French lavender alive outside for 4 years. This winter killed it

This was the worst winter in my area since 2010 so we'll call it a glitch.

Today I bought a load of Vanilla Marigolds which I think look excellent and would go nicely with any purple- https://gardeners.s3.amazonaws.com/p/FLSMAR31763_3.jpg

    Got 3 small Osteospermums too.

You could always sow some California poppy in the gaps.

Just got some of those seeds so I'll get round to that shortly.

A little bit late for this year, but next year, buy a packet each of calendula, nasturtiums, forget me nots and annual poppies.  You'll never need to buy bedding plants again.  If you get too many, it's easy enough to pull them out.

Californinian poppies or nasturtiums with variegated leaves
I did some of that last year. As well as planting London Pride which produced lots of off sets.
They filled my bare borders beautifully all this year with attractive frothy flowers the bees like. A very inexpensive solution. When I need that space I will plant with something else.

It's probably not too late to sow nasturtiums. They grow like Topsy IME
