Is it a tree?

I found this one day in my parent's garden, it's looks like a tree plant but not sure. We think it is birch. Any ideas?

    Looks very much to me like a common sycamore sapling, we have plenty of them...anyone confirm?

    I've been transferring these from my garden to a neglected corner of a field that I'm trying to turn back into woodland. I found the first one 5 or 6 years ago growing happily in the waterbutt filter. It's well over 10' now and growing rapidly. Keep it going and find a good home for it. 
    If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
