Morning, I'm afraid I'm one of those gardeners who cannot throw anything away - even when it's been on the compost heap once! When I was turning it about 3 years ago I came across a fruit stone (I think) that was shooting. Have nurtured it (well banged it in to a pot and left it outside to fend for itself). It now stands 1 foot tall - any ideas? Thanks

Was it a cherry stone or something bigger?
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

first glance and I thought , ASH, but , if it came from a stone, might it be a walnut? Juglans Nigra.

I wonder if the squirrel has been burying his nuts in there? The stone seemed quite big, I think, but difficult to say as the plant was getting established and  there were roots and soil around it (almost avocado size - but we don't eat avocados so not something we'd put on there). Not cherry size. Would be nice if it were walnut though....many thanks
