What's the difference between rhododendrons and azaleas?

    My dad planted this one years ago, he always said it was an azalea, looks like a rhodo to me
     
    This is what I call azalea. Tiny leaves.

    The RHS calls them all rhododendrons but says the deciduous ones are azaleas.  Nothing to do with size or shape, just whether they're evergreen or not.

    I read, online, that azaleas have five stamens, rhododendrons ten or more???

    Seems right, I have 5 on the little pink and 10 on the big white tree.

    A different number of stamens might "mean" something botanically?
