Hubby used to bring exhaust gloves home from work, recently bought some of those suede jobbies, couldnt find, them convinced they had accidentally been thrown away, bought another pair last week B & Q, put them away in consevatory cupboard and guess what, there was the other pair! Our daughter says he does a "man look",  Brambles, bane of my life, coming from next doors garden, they are so thick stenned they force through the fence and are breaking it up, last year complete with gloves, but one got into a brand new t-shirt and made a hole I was fuming.  Normally, they are dealt with weekly, but Hubby and I both ened up having operations,  last year,so couldnt do the normal regular clearing, so they had built up

Wayside leave them about a month!! my garden would be overrun with brambles, as for jumping up and down on them, the ones that come through from our neighbours are so big, last year when we had to do the whole side of the garden, a great deal of the thorns went through our boot soles and into our feet.

I can highly recommend Skytec Argon foam cold protection insulated gloves. For some reason I can't post a link but Amazon sell them for about £6.  I am on my second pair and only rarely do I get bramble thorns coming through.  They really are excellent - and I have no affiliation with the company in case you are wondering!  We have heavy duty brambles in our garden and they have been a lifesaver.

@Nanny Beach  yeah, I went back to the dead bramble pile yesterday and it still wasn't that nice to handle.  Tough boots in order.

I've used them for masses of brambles and 3 big pyracanthas. As well as the usual rose pruning etc
Can you wrap a bramble stem around your hands and give it a good yank? That's what I find myself doing, and the welder's gauntlets work just fine for that. I'm assuming that Lyn's "Marigolds" wouldn't work in that situation. But do the deerskins???
They most certainly do, I've yanked up an area aprox 30'x30' that was mostly dead brambles (after I'd killed them), nothing has yet penetrated them..

They sound good then, but, er, expensive!

They are, but like many things the better the quality, the longer it lasts (usually).
I reckon I'll get another 2 yrs out of them so they've cost me about £3 a year. Which isn't really expensive after all for some exceptionally good gloves.

  • Lyn from Devon, I believe you!
For most trimming and moving bramble branches around a pair of marigolds works well 👍🏻
