Aureliecilar you are so lucky to have tree sparrows in your garden! I get Bullfinches in my country garden but only at specific times and not on my array of feeders. They like blackthorn buds and just before they burst is the best time to see them in my garden. They also like the old dead dried blackberries, geranium phalm seedheads are another I have seen them feeding on, also honeysuckle berries.
Based in Sussex, I garden to encourage as many birds to my garden as possible.
Thanks Pansy face, fruit trees is all I have in my garden (apple, plum, cherry, damsel, fig) so they have plenty to eat here !! There is an old border which I have not had the time to clear yet next to the feeders and it is full of dandelion seeds so I am going to leave this way for the time being. They were both back this morning, munching on the niger seeds!
Well I am sure no one really cares but I have had a great spotted woodpecker visiting my peanut feeder today and this has made my day just had to share my excitement!
I'm still jealous of your tree sparrows so don't start rubbing your pecker in my face. My bullfinches are still loving the dandelion seeds here though. One was on the patch in front of the patio doors just now but was too spooky to stick around while I grabbed the camera.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
