Pelargoniums

Just wondering what people’s favourite pelargoniums are and where the best place to buy them is?

Only just started growing them this year so looking to get a good collection together.

Hi Daniel - I'm not really a fan of them , but I've always loved the colour of Lord Bute [very dark plummy red with a raspberry /orangey edge] and last year I treated myself to some plugs from a specialist nursery. I can't recommend them highly enough - Cramden Nursery in Northampton.  They were extremely helpful and the plants were beautifully packaged, inexpensive, carefully labelled and with full instructions.

They actually featured on G's World shortly after I got them.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • B&Q sell them by the shedload under the guise of Geranium.....I've spent a good bit of time searching through them today! I like them to look at, but wouldn't know what they were called.

The feature on GW was pretty good, the couple they were showcasing had loads of very nice ones if I remember correctly.

  • Thanks fairygirl, Lord Bute sounds a good type so will probably purchase that one 👌
  • And I will definitely check out b&q and see what they have but I have never seen the gardeners world feature about them so will look online for that.

    Thanks The Bald Gardener.

The problem with B&Q, or similar outlets is that, they don't offer specific varieties or single colours. It isn't cost effective for them.  That's fine if you simply want a lot of pots of mixed colours, but no use if you want something different, or like me, you don't want pots with multicoloured flowers in them. Horses for courses  ;)
You might struggle to get much now too - it's getting a bit late in the day for them unless you're lucky. Garden Centres may have a few still available, and would probably be in better condition.

  • Yeah that doesn’t sound like what I’m looking for so garden centres might be the better option, it’s just I live in Berwick so their arnt many options in terms of places to buy plants and the ones that are here are small versions so don’t stock a lot.
  • @Daniel Rutherford   On second thoughts it may not have been on GW, it might have been a stand alone programme I watched.
  • Oh well I’ll still have a look see what features I can find about them
  • It was the great british garden revival that I watched, episode 7 conifers & pelargoniums.

I always buy mine from Fibrex nursery. They are truly wonderful and the variety is good. I prefer miniature pelargoniums for the window sill, but I have some regal, angel and zonal pelargoniums as well.
