Horticultural sand

I used to buy horticultural sand from B+Q for taking pelargoniums cuttings etc,but can't see it there now.In fact although I haven't done an in depth search,I haven't seen it anywhere. Is it still used?

I've never used it, so don't know, but Monty had great success using straight perlite for cuttings last year - a lot lighter too. Maybe worth a try if you can't get hort. sand

I just use the straight sharp sand from B&M. Works ok for me.

Salt content of building sand depends where the sand is from. Sand dredged from the sea bed is salty (sometimes it's washed, sometimes not). Sand dug from inland sand pits/ quarry type isn't salty. Check source with the provider.

I bought a bag of RHS horticultural sand in my local garden centre cagzo, so it is still available.

My trade nursery sells loads of hort sand to local garden centres so it's still out there and very commonly available

Easy enough to tell if it is sea sand. That usually has bits of shell in it.
