Plant or weed

Brickman0430Brickman0430 Posts: 182
Hi all, four or five of these have sprouted up amongst my photinias, and i’m Wondering if they are plants or weeds? They look very thistle like if I can describe them like that, any help would be most appreciated,
Pat.

    Thistley weeds I'm afraid Pat.
You need to get the whole tap root out to be successful, so maybe a glyphosphate gel applied to the leaves would be the answer.
If the soil is very light, you may be able to pull the whole plant out, but if there's a bit of root left it'll re-sprout.
I usually try pulling first and if it reappears, then use glyphosphate (Roundup gel)

Looks like creeping thistle to me:

These spread by horizontal roots so are difficult to dig out.

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

Thanks for the speedy response guys, i’ll fish it out, and be ready with some roundup gel if it reappears.
