Our ash trees have a greeny/blue/grey stem when young.  On first looks I thought a little elder like.

Why the hate for the ash tree?  It seems their days are numbered.  The worst thing about them I read is that they require a lot of clearance, so could out compete other trees nearby.

As a tree I really adore them.  Light shines through the canopy.

Just they seed themselves everywhere, like sycamore and can grow a mile a minute. Once they have got themselves established between the paving or in rose roots they are v hard to get out.

I'm with you there. They are nice trees, if you have a big enough garden.

This is a 50cm border in the front of the house, not really suitable for any large trees. I do like them otherwise.
