Antirrhinums - pinching out?

janebaljanebal Posts: 130
I have just received 40 MINI PLUG antirrhinums in the post with no instructions. They are really quite small. Some have 2 stems but most are just single stems with leaves. Do I need to pinch out the tops to make them bush up and develop more stems? Can I just cut the tops of with scissors to do this? Any advice gratefully received.

I would wait until they are around 7 cm tall before pinching  out.

They are 7 cm and some are a bit more - how much shall I cut off the tops, please?

Take your thumb and finger and pinch out the top set of leaves to just above the set below. I have pinched mine at least three times since they germinated and they are lovely bushy little plants now ready to go outside.

Don't be frightened to do this as they can get very leggy otherwise. If you can only see one set of leaves at the moment, then leave them to grow on a little.

Thank you very much for this advice. I have got 3 sets of  leaves so I will pinch them out. I didn't realize you could do it again later on too.
