I’m sure I should recognise this....

There’s only one in the garden I can find but can’t remember if I planted it.  I’m sure when someone tells me what it is I’ll die of embarrassment at not knowing...

first picture is close up of the leaf, second the whole plant - including the buds seeming to contain a yellow flower..

    If it’s got yellow flowers it’s buttercup, if it’s blue it Rozanne geranium.  I can never tell until I look at the base, buttercup leaves all come out of one places, geranium all over the place.

    Hmm it does look like meadow buttercup doesn’t it... I’ll take that as quite embarrassing ☺️

    Oh Andy - it does look rather buttercuppy - the flower bud looks like it has some yellow  :/
    B***ers aren't they! They sneak in amongst other plants and pretend they're something nice and friendly  ;)
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

    Ah, do they self seed a lot then?  Have got some totally tangerine but nowhere near these (and noticed some in front garden too)!

    You can get a wild variety, they have tiny little yellow flowers,  could be that. I pull them out.

    Lyn is correct ; looks like the 'wild' variety , Geum urbanum ; a pernicious weed of many a garden I look after !

    Ugh, thanks all.  I’ve been pretty poor weeding this year it seems!
