Some seeds need a period of cold, but most dont need to go in the fridge, I have way too many for that anyway, seed boxes full. The free ones, I just chuck on a patch of garden I am trying to make into a cutting bed.
I’ve never put seeds in the fridge, if you sow them at the correct time, the winter gives them their cold snap. When they drop on the ground from established plants they germinate next spring with just winter conditions.
I think the seeds that are given free on the magazine fronts are T & M I wouldn’t ever buy those anyway, have no faith in that companies seeds. my parent were great seed sowers and would entertain T & M . haivng said that, I expect there are people who like them.
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.
I planted the free January sunflowers. I lost most to slugs, but five have made it. Just about to flower. Not very tall but I hope they might keep gaining some height.
