can I hard prune a bit of my rosemary bush now? Too late?

I have a rosemary bush which is growing very strongly to one side. I was going to replace it but I read that even if you cut into wood, as long as you dont prune more than a third at a time, it will recover.  Is it too late to do this now or should I wait till early spring next year?

It's not too late. In fact you can prune back your rosemary plant right up to late autumn. If your plant is quite woody and old, you may need to take the pruning in stages. Cut down to branches that are not too thick and not more than a third of its branch length. I suggest cutting back half this way, and lightly prune the rest. One year later, prune back harder the remaining lightly pruned branches from the previous year. That way, your plant has sufficient time to recover.

ANd take some cuttings so that you can replace it in a year or so,
