Kerri's japonica

Can anybody advise me please. I've a well established Kerria over 15 years old that's suddenly died. I've read about a fungus wonder if that's the problem and what can I do about it.

Fifteen years is not bad. When you say it just died, did you see leaf drop prematurely last year? How was the health of all the leaves? Fungal infection usually show on the leaves. Discolouration or shrivelling, it's very rare to not show signs a bit earlier.

If you want to grow the same plant in the area and you are unsure about what happened, I think the best thing is to remove all the soil around the area of the shrub and same with the soil downwards. If you want to plant another shrub in its place, it should not be a problem.
