Dead Geraniums?

LoupenLoupen Posts: 29
When should geraniums come back to life, I have had geraniums in pots in my garden for 3 years but I think the cold weather we had has killed them off as the is no sign of life at all,I’m sure last year I had started to see new growth by now but then they never lost all their leaves before.

They can be pretty tender. Have a look at the root system.

What sort of geraniums do you mean? They hardy ones or what we used to call geraniums which are now called Pelargonium?

Ah, I thought cranesbill died right back to the ground each year...

Mine does Fire, But they are now all grown and in flower so I wondered if OP's 'geraniums' might actually be pelargoniums which are not hardy and die if left outside all winter.

I have hardy geraniums planted in the garden and yes they are fine blooming nicely. It’s the normal  big head geraniums and ivy leaf geraniums in pots that have not resurfaced , the root system looks fine but the stems are brown and look dead, no leaves, I will post a picture, thanks for your help I,m a bit of a novice Gardener and don’t want to get rid of them unnecessarily.

I would say the pelargoniums are lost. They don't like snow as are Med plants.

They have to be looked on as summer bedding as they are tender plants. You can overwinter them if you let them dry out (not completely but kept quite dry) and store them somewhere frost free and then they might start to grow again next year.
