Cold frame height

So OH is making me a cold frame and has asked me this morning what height I want the base to be. I'd assumed it would sit down on the ground but he's thinking of making the base table height so it's easier for me to put plants in and out, etc. I think that's a great idea but before he commits do you have any comments?

It is Pansyface - he's already made the body of it, just deciding whether to make a frame with legs or sit it on some pavers on the ground. I'm favouring table height, as long as it IS properly sturdy.

Also - remember that if it's higher, it's more susceptible to wind and wild weather.

Down on the ground it's easier to keep it sheltered, which help enormously if you're overwintering anything  :)

Perhaps you could make it a combination. If the top was separate, but very securely fixed to a base [sliding bolts or similar] you could detach it for winter and have it at ground level. Just a thought.... :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
