What a nasty bunch. Some true colours showing here. How very sad.

Anyone would think this is a set up of a thread to spark such silly comments.

Faith in human nature / some people severely diminished.

Really it is not what this forum is all about, this forum is about gardening! By the way all cats are welcome in my garden  :)
Maybe you've missed the forum title - it is "Problem Solving" and to many people, finding cat **** in the lawn, in kids sand boxes, in borders is a problem which needs solving.  In what way is that not what the forum is about?

I've also found this thread very disappointing. I had thought that a forum full of gardeners would be a bit more elightened when it came to the issues discussed but when people describe the problems they're having with cats in their gardens I didn't expect cat owners to be giggling up their sleeves and coming back with such pathetic excuses for why they continue to allow their pet to adversely impact peoples' lives. As you said, faith in human nature diminished.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

Inspired by this thread , we're going to set up some hobby classes for magpies .... we thought macrame would be good to start with ... I mean, have you seen the state of a magpie nest ... it's a wonder that it can hold any eggs at all! They could learn a thing or two about nest building from the Long tailed tits.
The wood pigeons don't seem to have a lot to do and they keep getting picked off by the local peregrines ... perhaps they'd enjoy building a replica of the Millenium Falcon out of matchsticks.
Hobbies for birds ... there's a world of opportunity out there ...   ;)

As for equating cats killing rats with dogs attacking children ... I didn't, except inasmuch as they're both behaving perfectly naturally ... and if humans can control their dogs (which if left to behave naturally would roam freely in packs), why can't they control their cats?

I've just had to cover my veg garden with a construction of wire netting to protect the newly sown seeds :/

From a practical point of view, although it doesn't help with the wildlife issues, I sprinkle holly leave and poke in short holly twigs. This keeps cats and foxes away from newly planted beds and containers.
You've got to be careful when you're weeding though!

@Millie Molly Mandy you're not the first and I'm sure you're not going to be the last.  Sometimes I contribute; sometimes I don't ... I love cats ... I wouldn't harm one ... it's just that I don't want them in my garden ... some people seem to think that's the same as hating cats ... it's not.

But you can see why @Hostafan1 is so rich that he can afford to indulge his hobby of hosta collecting  :)
