The elder needs to come out completely, the estate agent was concerned about it being so close to the conservatory. If I cut it right back to about half a foot and then dig up the roots and re-plant elsewhere will it recover and spread out a bit?
So many weeds. Mostly some sort of weird prehistoric feathery grass thing that pops up everywhere looking like creepy asparagus. Will wood chips affect anything else planted in the bed? I've put in a lot of bulbs around small shrubs and roses.
A prehistoric feathery grass thing sounds ominously like horsetail, one of the hardest weeds to control. Google a picture of it, and if it matches, type it into this forum and you'll find how to tackle it.
I hope you've got a long term tenancy, since you're taking all this trouble! You landlord ought to reduce your rent, as he/she is getting the garden overhauled for nothing.
Lemon balm is a lovely herb to use in drinks and salads, and bees love it, but it's as invasive as most of the mint family
Yeah, it looks very much like horsetail. Thankfully it's now in the feathery phase rather than the creepy asparagus phase. The internet says it's an aquatic plant so I wouldn't be surprised if it had spread from the river, the other side of my garden which is twice as far away from the water has barely any, so I'm not particularly hopeful about getting rid of it.
A rent reduction would be amazing! But I suspect not on the cards. We've got no set end to our tenancy otherwise I would have just kept growing things in pots in the conservatory, but I can guarantee that the moment I get the garden just how I like it we'll move.
Any advice on how to evict the lemon balm and mint? I'm going to pull out some to put in pots because free herbs! But the rest of it needs to go.
