    The RHS reckons their height and spread are both between 4 and 8 metres after 10 to 20 years and that will depend on growing conditions and climate.

    The great thing about having such an open canopy is that it does look airy and you can underplant with things that like dappled shade as long as you choose well.   They add height and structure without being too solid.   Just have to keep pulling or digging out the suckers coming from the roots.

    I have a clump in my garden.. it's really about having them in a place you can let them sucker or else easily dig out suckers.  'Right plant, right place' sort of thing.  I love their texture, shape, and color.  I've never pruned mine, but has suckered out.. I think probably due to our dry climate and it's search for water.

  • Thanks for all your help, i can see all sorts of suckers around the garden but I don't think they will be difficult to dig up, as long as I don't damage tgt parent by so doing,
