Pieris problems - red spots and black edges

Hi,

I have two pieris plants in my garden which I bought over the past few weeks, one is carnival and lives in a raised bed with MPC and some ericaceous compost. The new leaves have slowly been turning from red to green, but I just noticed these spots today, is it some kind of problem or just part of the leaves changing colour? I'm sure some of the lower leaves that have them are not new so I don't know.

Second plant is a Forest Flame and is in a pot with ericaceous compost. Some of the new leaves seem to be going black on the ends and fall off if I touch them: Are they getting too much sun?

Thanks!

If you are growing them in a raised beds, you need to be consistent and put in ericaceous compost rather mix with standard multi-purpose compost. The red dots are usually indication of stress and possible beginnings of fungal infection.

Make sure the shrub is planted in ideal conditions, if the shrub is crowded, you might want to prune out crowded branches to minimise humid and damp conditions. Plant them away from the heat of the sun and look to place them in semi shade.

With the second plant, could be leaf scorch, but I would prune away the shrivelled leaves soon and any fallen leaves collect promptly to avoid issue later on.
