I read recently that in many states it is / was illegal to have water butts. Astonishing!
I remember someone telling me it was illegal to collect rainwater from your own roof in California. I thought they were pulling my leg until I checked. Coming from Wales where we get so much rain that we supply half of England with our surplus it just seems unreal. California is now using so much ground water though that the whole state is sinking by inches every month.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
In 2000 Alabama became the last state in the country to overturn its ban
on interracial marriage - more than 40 percent of
Alabamians still voted against overturning it.
It doesn't sound like the growth will be especially sustainable though if they literally suck their own country dry and sink it into the sea to achieve it.

We tried to ban it in Wales too but you just can't stop people marrying the English if they want to.

I keep a lot of water back in one large wildlife pond, (drains into a swale which runs once a year, normally dry) one medium pond, 2 small ponds, one titchy pond, one animal trough, and 3 water butts for shed roof runoffs. Sadly none of this is integrated, and none of the house roof rainwater is saved, so I’m very interested in this thread! Surely new houses should be using rainwater for flushing toilets etc and not fresh water? Why isn’t this done more? Is it the cost of double pipe work and water storage containers and pumps?
