Honeysuckle

My honeysuckle looked dead but then I noticed new growth at the bottom, is this what normally happens or did it get damaged in the winter? Do I cut away all the old growth or will the new growth use it to grow? Thanks

Did you just plant it this year or is it an established plant? Either way, I would trace the main stem up and see if it is broken, which would explain no leaves in the upper reaches. If you can't find a break, leave it for another month and see what happens. If still no green in the main bit, just prune all the dead stuff off and train up your new shoots. Honeysuckle should sprout from all its branches - it should not need cutting back unless it has outgrown its space.

  • My honeysuckle died - a side shoot has appeared at the base of the stump and is now about 5” high - how do I look after it

When did it die?   Was it because of this summer's drought?  Where is it planted?
