Update: my salt table has been working really well through May and June. Rain hasn't been a problem as the water is salty (and so off putting to slugs). The saucers overflow on to concrete under decking and not near plants. There is a drain near by. When the rain dries up the salt re-crystallises (as pictured) and is just as off putting to slugs.
I lost the whole greenhouse worth of seedlings to slugs in March (gutting). I would use this system again.
The structure shouldn't touch anything else, such as the ivy behind, or be close enough for slugs to bridge with their bodies. I don't use the bottom shelf as rain might splash salt up to touch the
plants. At the moment the rather wobbly structure is being propped up by
the wrought iron thingy, but slugs haven't found their way over it yet.
It's in the shadiest part of the garden (as that is where I have the only space at the moment) and I used the red scarf to shade seedlings from full morning sun when their leaves were getting scorched. It worked really well. The two pots on the ground on the left are long dead, heading for the compost heap.
