It's in a raised "rockery" that is about 5 foot in diameter. The only longstanding plant in there that I haven't put there in the last 3 years is a pyracantha. I would happily throw everything away if I have to to stop it. Its just starting to creep beyond this rockery so I need to stop it now, I guess .
I took the head in the sand approach thinking if I cut off the pretty flowers it would help stop the spread but it didn't. The roots go very deep and you have to double dig pulling out every single last little bit of it. Then keep an eye out in spring and get digging as soon as you see the leaves sprouting. I've resorted to extra-strong weed killer but that only works until another bit starts bursting through. I would dig everything out. Wash the plants you want to keep and pot up while you rid that soil. It's heart and back-breaking. Good luck.
