Fungus gnats?

Hi all. I have a load of little gnat type files in one particular area of the garden, that I do not remember from last year. Someone has said they are fungus gnats, which may make sense as the area of the garden they are in is the one that has been the most sodden. I have recently put down well rotted horse manure and am wondering if this has added to the problem? Any advise on appreciated, especially on why they have appeared and how to get rid of them. Thanks

Yes dry conditions as pansyface suggests help. Just a word of advice if you have any tubers, make sure you are watering them cautiously to manage the gnat infestation else you will find a mush with baby gnats in it. I lost several dahlias to these buggers last month. Nevertheless the other plants in the garden were left alone.
  • thanks all. nothing in that area other than existing hornbeam and new heading plants. I will try to be patient!

Think of all the little fledglings in their nests who'll be having them for breakfast very soon  :)
