Too late for pansies!

I am relatively new to gardening and last year built several patio plant boxes approx 800mm x 400mm x 150mm. Last year I grew pansies which provided a brilliant display for months. I had hoped to repeat the "performance" again this year but after trawling around countless garden centres this weekend it appears that I have missed the boat as they are no longer around. Can anyone suggest another plant that would provide a similar display of colour, be as easy to maintain and provide blooms on a "cut and come again" basis.

Morrison had loads of pansies when I went in last Friday.

Cosmos are easy and look amazing.  Keep cutting to fill your vase and they will produce more and more flowers.

Still have pansies in b&q today.
I like Dianthus / sweet williams. They are available now as cheap small plants, but give them plenty of room and they make a good size with lots of flowers which can be cut.

Homebase still had them last week. However, as has already been said there are lots of alternatives at this time of year.
Some lobelia trailing over the sides of your containers would look lovely and some Bacopia. If you want a bit of scent as well as colour, you could have 10 week Stock, it's wonderful. Pelargonium will soon be ready to plant out and will also provide lots of colour all summer and autumn.
  • I hve to confess, I never gave the supermarlets or B&Q a thought. Having checked out my local B&Q, I did indeed find Pansies for sale, albeit a bit bedraggled (although this could have been through lack of water). Finished up buying a mix of Pansies and Sweet Williams, so thanks to all who contributed to my thread.
