I pull out the mildewed ones as I see them in the hopes that what survives is resistant. I don't think there's much else you can do.

Mine had that last year, I just cut them right down to the ground, they are up this year and flowering now, perfect.

Many of mine seem to have the same signs as on the Torchwood site and are dwindling away.  However, the aquilegia caerulea seem unaffected so far and they're my favourites.

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

Mine had mildew last year and have flowered fine, I did the same with cutting them right down. Downy mildew is different than the regular mildew they get, can have a google for pictures. If it's Downy dispose asap.

Why are they so susceptible to regular mildew? Mine are well watered and ventilated. I notice my honeysuckles have just started getting it too.
  • @Fire,..many plant suffer from Mildew,..Asters and Roses not forgetting Aquilegia,..to mention just those as i grow them,..i am a firm believer in using a mix of 'Neem Oil' and 'Liquid Soap',..a tablespoon of each in a 'Litre' of water then spray on a dull day,..i use this mix mainly for my roses but tend to spray just about everything else,..this mix does not harm Bees or Butterflies,..but will prevent insects from eating the foliage.
I have used this mix for over 60 years and find it works,..Philip.

My aqilegia viridiflora has bloomed for the first time. Imagine a tiny aquilegia with a brown overskirt and yellow underneath!!! Pics tomorrow.

Some of mine have mildew and there are far fewer this year compared to previous years. I am removing any that show signs of mildew. Sadly 'Nora Barlow' didn't make an appearance this year. I've had her about six years and really sad to lose her :(
