Gaura

I can’t see any new growth on my gaura which was planted last year.  Would it be hardy enough to withstand last winter’s very cold temperatures.

Gaura are not the hardiest of plants, but they also start into growth very late, so I would give them a few more weeks.

Thanks, I’ll give them a few more weeks then before I replace them.

Mine was looking dead, but shoots have started to appear, so you may be okay !

Mine are just shooting in a well drained sunny bed.  The worst they had was -8C but that's more (or less if you like) than they would have to withstand in most winters here.

Mine died in the Isle of Wight. They often self seed but none survived thus year.

Am thinking mine is dead. Tried it before and it wasn't hardy then - what made me think investing more money on another plant would have a different outcome????? Perennial optimist me!

They are very easy to grow from seeds, you just have to think ahead.
If you sow them now, they will be ready to plant out next year, with sowing perennials yourself you just need to be thinking one to two years in advance.
