Online plant ordering, again...

Janie BJanie B Posts: 963
I've just noticed that there are two online plant sellers with similar names! I've ordered plants from plantsforshade.co.uk (they have always been excellent). There name is Long Acre Plants, and they're based in Somerset. I've just noticed that longacres.co.uk has several Garden Centres, and it looks like it's head office is based in Bagshot. A little while ago there was a thread on here where lots of people recommended Longacres, just wondering which one people were referring to...

I have ordered from longacres.co.uk and I think this one is popular as it’s inexpensive and good quality. I looked this year and found a lot less choice and prices had gone up a bit, so I didn’t order this year.

They are cheap, but by God, how much plastic they wrap things in?! I have half the world's bubble wrap (three assorted grades on one item), if anyone's looking.

Fire - I feel your pain. I once got a CD in a box big enough for a small dog -Amazon of course :)

Yes, but don't forget - plants aren't like sending a tin of beans - or a CD. They're living, breathing things, and need careful packing. We'd all be quick enough to complain to nurseries if the plants arrived looking like a heap of sh*te and badly damaged.

I received a pair of insoles once - in a box the size of those plastic trays they put bread in....and no, I don't have giant clown feet... :D
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

I've had plants arrive in excellent condition padded with straw or crushed paper. I don't think bubble wrap is much superior. It helps greatly if the couriers don't bash them about.

You can always save it and line the GH with it,  ;)

I have various friends who sell on Ebay and I give packaging to them. But still, I'd rather not have any to start with.

I think I might have recommended them on here.  I am not going to be much help as their (apparent) dual web addresses and company names confuses the life out of me.  However, I think they are one and the same.

I became aware of them when browsing a large, local garden centre (the kind that has a brilliant range of everything under the sun, except for plants), walked outside and, lo and behold, they have the most fantastic range of plants; turns out the GC had been bought out by Long Acre.  I made a large order online of various perennials - fantastic quality, bigger than expected and excellent value.

    They are great generally.

I can't imagine that bubblewrap is very good for plants, much better when stuffed with paper, at last it's breathable.
