Plant ID

Can anyone name this plant - originally a pond plant was growing in this container, but it appeared to die and this has taken it's place. Please ignore the original plant label. Thanks.

It looks a lot like the ton of water mint I've just pulled out of my pond. Does it have a minty smell at all?

    Resembles Self-heal, Prunella vulgaris

No smell Ladybird, I wish it was a pond plant. Yes, it does look similar to Self-heal nutcutlet - in fact we bought a pot of s-h recently, so I can compare them tomorrow.

I think prunella too ... We've got lots of it here ... the bees love the flowers.

Are the flowers purple?  There are none at the moment, but I will look out for them - is it worth keeping the plant for the bees, if so I may plant it in my wild flower bed.

@nutcutlet posted a pic of her wildflower 'lawn' on here a while ago ... an absolute picture of lovely prunella and other wild flowers ... I wonder if she can find it again ...

Thank you for the brilliant link Dove - I have taken a good look - our plant has some red on the leaves - so not 100% sure it is the same, however I will keep an eye on it, looking for buds and flowers in due course to confirm it's similarities or not.
