This shrub is for the more discerning gardener and not for the disinterested I think, so in case anyone out there wants to know more, here are some more pics. It's an astonishing plant if grown well, I find it's more scented and the flowers are larger, with moisture at the root. I've grown it in both dryer conditions and wetter.. it's natural habitat is along river banks on the American plains. It produces edible black berries, but I don't get too many of those..

In July I allow 'Prince Charles' clematis to invade it...
..by October I clear all that away, and then I get this..
