The problem I have with blackbirds is the incessant whistling, from 5am until late evening he/she is sitting in a tree whistling at the top of it’s beak, it even managed to mimic the sound of a phone ringing last week, 3 times I stopped what I was doing and went inside to answer it, before remembering I don’t have a house phone anymore, blackbird 1- dumb amateur Gardner 0 🙉
My neighbour has an african grey parrot that can mimic anything. It does loads of different ring tones and advert jingles but even better it does a hilarious impression of my neighbour's rather shrill wife shouting at their son.

Would a gravel mulch deter a blackbird? (from digging not singing)
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

It will if you throw the gravel at the bird..

One of my blackbirds very kindly started clearing my gutters last year.  To be fair I suppose I should have done them sooner.
I have places with gravel and they chuck that about too. Big 1-1.5" stuff. Not pea gravel. Louts!

Och give the poor creature a break. It's probably just trying to feed it's family.
They have a hard enough time. Was sat outside today and heard almighty alarm calling. Then saw two blackbirds chase a crow with something in it's beak...could've cried.
