One of the most difficult succulent Euphorbias to obtain ; E.piscidermis . Occurring from only one remote valley in N.Africa , in the 1980's this plant was estimated to be worth its own weight in gold , literally !! Whether or not it has been propagated commercially since , I do not know ; I would think it is probably extinct in its native habitat now .
In the case of imported tree-ferns , (probably removed from their habitats due to 'development') , buying a larger plant is more or less essential .
With an annual height increase of just around 1" , my 5' high fern is around 60-years old . The old 'veterans' (usually underwatered in some corner of a garden centre) ,are of course many years older than mine .
As B3 says though , the enjoyment is in actually growing the plants yourself .
